Places to see in Kaş – Kalkan – Patara

Xanthos was the largest administrative center of Lycia in antiquity. It is located on the 17.km of Kalkan-Fethiye road near the Kinik village. In 545 B.C. the city was independent until the occupation of the Persians, and then it was burned completely. After a century the city was rebuilt again. The capital of Lycians Xanthos and Letoon take place in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The city is an ideal historical place to see with all its mosaics, fortification walls, memorials and grave remains

One of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Kaputaş Beach is only 6 kilometers away from Kalkan. You can descent on the stone stairs and admire the magnificent sea. The beach area is composed of small shingle.

If you get tired of lazing on the sunbeds and sunbathing, you can visit beaches and ancient cities on horseback. This activity will give you an opportunity to take a closer look at Patara’s surroundings, so you can make the most of your holiday.

Blue Cave is one of the favorite destinations of boat trips and it’s located about 500 meters away from Kaputaş Beach towards Kaş direction. The width of this cave is 18 m, height – 10 m and depth of it is around 35 m. It is known as Blue Cave because of the turquoise color with its fluorescent radiance which is reflected from under water.

Bezirgan highland is located about 20 minutes away from Patara. The temperature in this highland, which is situated on the Lycian Way, does not exceed 25C in August. Other places to see within the Taurus Plateau are Gömbe highland, Uçarsu Waterfall and Yeşilgöl.

It is the biggest and uninhabited island located on the Sunken City Kekova only 15 minutes away (by boat) from Üçağız village. You can see the remains of the ancient buildings and even the whole city swept into the sea while sailing along the coast of the island. You will have the opportunity to discover the sunken city through the glassy ground of the boat. It’s also possible to come to the area by renting a canoe, thus you will see the stairs of the city which was dissapeared in the sea before centuries. Alegedly, the city that was buried under the water following the earthquake in the 2nd century B.C. is the Lost City of Atlantis.

You can reach the ancient city of Pinara on a short road forked out from Fethiye – Xanthos road. The name of the city founded in the 5th century B.C. was Pinya or Pinara which meant “round” in Lycian language. This city is situated at the oval and rocky foothill and it’s covered with rock tombs. You can also find the remains of the ancient theater for three thousand people, the castle, the market place, the place of worship and hammam among the places to see.

The Neron Lighthouse is the world’s oldest lighthouse which has remained till nowadays. It was built by the Roman Emperor Nero. It was located in the ancient Patara harbor until 1481 when it was destroyed by an earthquake. In 2008 the lighthouse was taken out from the heap of sand in 2008 and restored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The inscriptions found on the stones that were unearthed in 2005, were addressed to Sextus Marcias, the governor of that period, and the message was as follows “Thank you for governing the people of Lycia without bribery for 8 years and for beautifying your town with beautiful buildings.”

You can visit splendiferous bays of Kekova, Üçağız, Batıkşehir, Simena, Kaleköy, Akvaryum Bay, Small Islands, Limanağzı and Tersane and other places by joining our daily boat trips.
